Numerous research studies have been conducted on modeling operating speed. However, a crucial aspect that has been largely overlooked is the implementation of these models for safety enhancement in curves. This study aims to address this gap by investigating 20 horizontal curves on one of Iran's highways. For each curve, the speeds of 100 vehicles were analyzed. Horizontal curves with low safety levels were identified, and a practical approach was proposed to enhance safety through the utilization of the operating speed prediction model. The study considered the geometric parameters of curves as independent variables and the operating speed of vehicles as the dependent variable. Out of the curves investigated, 16 exhibited good consistency, while 4 curves showed fair consistency. None of the curves were found to have poor consistency. The results indicate that modifying the horizontal curve radius parameter can be an effective approach to enhancing safety at low safety curves.
