Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Australia’s Education Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard opened the Australian Education International Industry Forum in 2008 with remarks on the contribution that international education makes to Australia’s education system and national prosperity, and to cross-cultural understanding and international relationships, and commented on related trade pay offs and skilled migration benefits. She stated that its significance is much broader than economics and, reflecting the intrinsic nature of education itself, contributes to diplomacy and cross-cultural understanding and produces global citizens who can contribute to global understanding as well as to economic and cultural development. She also noted the importance and benefits that flowed to Australian students through experiences overseas. This chapter explores the development of international education in Australia, its history, the major forces of aid and export that influenced it, and its growth and importance in Australia today.
