  • Numerical inspection of natural thermally induced flow in horizontal annulus has been carried out. The annulus taken under consideration are circular annulus, square annulus and inclined square annulus (at 45°). The numerical study was done for different Ra number which ranges (\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$4 \times 10^4 < {\text{Ra}} < 4 \times 10^5$$\end{document}) for various widths of the annulus gap to outer diameter ratio (L/Do = 0.23, 0.3, and 0.37). Investigation has been done to get the effect of Rayleigh numbers, annulus width and annulus with fluid flow and the effective thermal conductivity (ETC) of an annulus. Increment in the thickness of annulus and Ra number has been observed with the enhancement of heat transfer performance and ETC. The presence of both corners in upper region of the square annulus is found to enhance heat transfer performance as comparable of cylindrical annulus. The heat transfer performance and ETC of the inclined square is found to be slightly less than square annulus.
