Soil acidity is a major environmental issue restraining growth and development in plants, thus causing reduced yield of several economically important crop plants. Phytohormones are critical in modulating and alleviating the deleterious effects of environmental stresses, including low pH (≤5.5) characteristics of acid soils on the growth and development of plants. Moreover, soil acidity results in changes in the biosynthesis and the action of phytohormones. Thus, this chapter provides an update and comprehensive overview of plant hormone responses, hormone homeostasis, and hormone crosstalk in acid soils, particularly under stress induced by low pH and aluminum toxicity.
