  • Passive cooling technique is an alternative way to provide thermal comfort for occupants in the building. Since it is natural way to provide thermal comfort, therefore, it also helps to reduce the cooling load for building. There are several passive cooling techniques which exist in practice. In this paper, the case study of geothermal cooling has been presented. The geothermal cooling method has been studied analytically, and the results have been compared with the experimental results. It has been observed that the temperature of soil decreases as the depth increases from the earth surface. Thus, the temperature gradient exists between soil inside the earth and atmosphere above the earth surface, and this temperature gradient is used to provide the cooling effect for hot region. From the experiments, it has been observed that the temperature inside the room decreases by 3–5 °C. Therefore, the investigation showed that the cooling effect by using geothermal cooling technique is quite significant.
