Magnesium alloys are advance and very attractive materials for sustainable development of automobile industries. Fusion welding of these alloys hinders the application due to the presence of chemically active elements in their compositions. In current research work, AZ91-AZ31 alloys are welded at fixed processing parameters (580 rpm RotS and 55 mm/min WeldS) using friction stir welding set-up which has been developed on drilling (radial) machine. The joint strength 186.74 MPa and maximum microhardness 85.5 Hv were obtained at these parameters. The microstructural study shows intense plastically deformed fine grains at just below the shoulder in crown zone.
