This chapter tells some true stories about teenage students’ problems with learning, revealed as they were home tutored by the author. It includes examples of teaching methods and data collection. Pupils were not excluded for bad behaviour but had truanted from school and were in receipt of home tuition. Parental approval, presence and collaboration were necessary and given. Data was collected about their feelings about lessons in the process of being taught. The background information was collected from the viewpoint of the author’s job of trying to understand and alleviate problems with school. emotionalProbable reasons for their absence from school and ways to re-engage them in school were considered. It was found that in every case, their points of view could be reasonably well understood given their circumstances. Sometimes difficulties were overcome and sometimes they were not.
