While enteral nutrition is the preferred method of nutrition support, it is not without its challenges. Choice of access can be complex. Position and type of tube are determined by patient characteristics. Tubes may end in the stomach or small bowel, which may be accessed via the nose, mouth, or through the abdominal wall. Complications may ensue, which may be mechanical, infectious, or metabolic. This chapter reviews the considerations when considering type and position of enteral access, as well as calling attention to the potential complications.
