• Latex is a cheap and widely used allergenic material. Repeated exposure to latex allergens leads to hypersensitivity. Healthcare workers and specific patient populations such as children with spina bifida are at high risk for developing latex allergies. Identifying high-risk patients and avoiding exposure remain best practice in preventing an allergic reaction. In the event of an allergic reaction, clinicians should be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and provide proper management.
