This chapter uses the general ethics of killing human beings developed in the preceding chapter to evaluate the specific ethical (im)permissibility of the selected killing actions that are at the centre of this book, namely suicide, lethal self-defence, abortion, euthanasia, organ transplantation and cooperation in suicide. So, while the previous chapter has provided the general ethical yardstick for the assessment of killing actions, this chapter zooms in on the ethics of selected cases of the killing of human beings and asks under which conditions, if any, the respective killings are ethically permissible. As the centrepiece of this book, this chapter introduces the foundation of the ethics of (a) killing oneself, (b) killing others and (c) helping others kill themselves.
