- In this chapter, an overview of the importance of renewable energy, and the wind energy background, wind energy conversion systems, and wind system topologies are presented. Wind energy, in particular, is reviewed with the protection requirement for induction generators in wind turbines, over-current protection devices, overload protection devices, under/over voltage protection devices, over and under frequency protection devices, and protection system verification.
