Successful manufacturing on complex machine tools depends on the experience of the machine operator, who knows essential influencing parameters. The variety of special materials and tools can be very large, so that the complex parameterization is based on tacit knowledge. However, success can only be measured and evaluated at the end of the process. In the article, results from the research project VisPro are shown, which accompany such manufacturing processes in optics with sensor technology, visualization and data analyses. The data analyses not only support process understanding and show correlations of parameters, but also visualize essential process variables during processing. The infrastructure for data acquisition, storage and analysis as well as the methodology of data analysis are described in the paper. First results are shown for an ultrasonic assisted grinding process in the optics sector.
