Beschreibungen/Notizen
One of the most unexpected events in the recent history of basic income is the publication in 1997 of Misères du présent, Richesse du possible by André Gorz, the French social critic and essayist. After criticizing the idea of a universal and unconditional basic income for the previous fifteen years, Gorz changed his mind. Even if an unconditional income guarantee or so-called basic income could not be achieved immediately, he wrote, ‘we must begin to conceptualize it and prepare the way for it as of now’. To understand such a change of mind, this chapter will explore Gorz’s evolving attitudes to universal basic income (UBI).
