Beschreibungen/Notizen
This chapter presents the first part of results of how political parties select candidates from immigrant backgrounds, focusing on the general requirements for nomination. These include indicators, such as the length of party membership, the previous office experience, and local roots in the constituency. The analysis proceeds in three steps. First, immigrant origin and native candidates are descriptively compared with regard to what requirements they must meet in order to run for election. Second, the analysis examines from a multivariate perspective how the immigrant origin relates to the requirements for nomination, while taking into account other confounding factors. Third, it presents insights from the qualitative interviews, which contribute to a better understanding and validation of the quantitative patterns.
