This study aims to assess the impact of silk garment production on water resources and environment. Water scarcity footprint and water degradation footprint including water eutrophication footprint, water acidification footprint and water ecotoxicity footprint were reported for silk garment based on ISO 14046. The water scarcity footprint of silk dress during reeling, dyeing and finishing and ironing were 1358.57 m3 H2O eq t−1, 428.77 m3 eq t−1 and 7.15 m3 H2O eq t−1 respectively. The water eutrophication footprint, water acidification footprint and water ecotoxicity footprint of silk apparel production were 350.45 kg NO3 eq t−1, 3.39 × 10−6 kg SO2 eq t−1 and 7.07 × 10−3 m3 H2O eq t−1. Reeling contributed the vast majority to water consumption and water eutrophication due to the high content of organic compound and nitrogen in the wastewater.
