Dr. Anthony Lang trained in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the University of Toronto, followed by a postgraduate training in Movement Disorders in London, England under the late Professor David Marsden. He initiated and continues to direct the Toronto Western Hospital Movement Disorders Clinic which is now one of the best know programs in movement disorders in the world with 9 full-time faculty members (each with international renown), 7 nurses, up to 10 fellows and a staff of over 30. He holds the Jack Clark Chair for Parkinson’s Disease Research at the University of Toronto and Lily Safra Chair in Movement Disorders at the Toronto Western Hospital.
Dr. Lang served on the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) Executive Committee in several capacities over the years: as Treasurer from 1988 to 1992, Secretary from 1996 to 1998 and then President from 2007 to 2009. He was Co-editor-in-Chief of the Society’s journal Movement Disorders between 1996 and 2003. In 2011, he was listed as the most highly cited investigator in the field of Parkinson’s disease for the decade 2001–2009.
