  • Improving cultural competency in Australian university graduates has been on the agendas of a number of institutions across different disciplines for several years. In 2011, the Australian Learning and Teaching Council recommended further funding be made available for research into learning and teaching practices across cultures, citing it as an area which is 'crucial to Australia's continuing leadership and international reputation in international education'. The Council recommended the following research priority areas: - preparing staff to teach and learn effectively across cultures; - developing international, intercultural and global perspectives of academics; - assessment for learning across cultures; - assessment of intercultural learning; and - learning across cultures as part of the total student experience.
