Weaver discussed how increased security could make individuals feel less secure. She commented on an article by Jonathan Mummolo which provided additional insight into the consequences of increasingly militarized police forces in the US., its politics and its racial geography. Mummolo examined whether militarization contributes to the safety of police officers, local crime reduction and confidence in police among Americans. The analysis demonstrated that militarized policing does not result in the anticipated public safety benefits nor does it abet officer safety, rather, it does impair confidence in police and increase perceived crime.
