• Lotus Development Corp. today announced it will acquire privately held Approach Software Corp. of Redwood City, Calif., developer of the award-winning Windows end-user relational database, Approach 2.0. The companies have signed a definitive acquisition agreement and expect to complete the transaction, which will be accounted for as a purchase, within 30 days. Lotus said the acquisition could result in a one-time pre-tax charge against earnings of up to $20 million in the quarter in which the transaction is completed. (excerpt)
