• The Institute on Science for Global Policy at the Lincoln Campus of the University of Nebraska invited close to 50 experts and policy specialists to work together in October 2013 for two days to agree on policy recommendations on some highly contentious issues in food safety and water demand. Water is key to food security as well as other issues and better management and policy governing water use will be needed on national, international, and local levels. Water quality standards need to be tailored to the use to be made of the water. New and constantly improved technologies are essential to more effective use of water for food, and food crops tailored to water availability.
