• I loved almost every minute of "Justine." I would recommend it, urge friends to see it, for Dirk Bogarde's telephone death scene alone, for the richness and taste of individual scenes, for the authority of Anouk Aimee's presence in the title role. Yet those so advised would likely return piqued by disappointment, for the Pandro S. Berman-George Cukor production for 20th is, in total, a major failure, not by prior expectation, but because it is so painfully incomplete on its own terms, a tab version of a larger conception.
