• The Los Angeles Unified School District is holding two groundbreakings a week and will have 65% of its 159 new schools and expansions under construction or complete by March. The turnaround was accomplished under the leadership of Kathi Littmann, deputy chief executive for new construction. The reason for her success, Littmann said, was bringing in knowledgeable people, setting benchmarks, and making everyone accountable for given metrics.
