• The network is not about to saturate the market amid the favorable response. "Not all shows, will be effective when dubbed. For instance Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed are good shows, but once you dub them in Tagalog [its hard to] sustain the witty dialogue. It is easier to dub dramas - any show that focuses on emotions, human relationships - like 24 or Meteor Garden will be very effective when dubbed in Tagalog." He also believes that it will not work for big screen movies shown on television. "The original English version is very much alive in the viewers mind, parang awkward ang dating pag Tagalog [it comes out awkward in Tagalog]. And then it will just run for one and a half hours, by the time you get used to seeing the character speaking in Tagalog, tapos na yung movie [the movie is finished]. That's why it is more effective for television series. Sa TV mag- aadjust ka lang siguro [for TV you will be adjusting] on the first 15 minutes, but after that masasanay ka na nag- tatagalog si [Kiefer Sutherland] [you will get used to hearing Keifer Sutherland talking in Tagalog]." it is not as simple as translating an English script to Tagalog. According to Mr. [Leo Katigbak], the scriptwriter/ translator watches the whole program and then translates the lines according to the movement of the actor's mouth. "The translation is not verbatim, because precision is important." The dubbed Tagalog words should be in synch with the movement of the mouth, thus the translator would have to find the right words, without losing the overall idea.
