• The Italian telecommunications sector is at a transitional stage from both a legal and organizational standpoint. From a legal standpoint by the end of summer 1997, 2 crucial laws, which should set out a new approach and alter the system at its roots are expected: 1. the law set out by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, which is aimed at reorganizing and regulating the whole television, broadcasting and telecommunications system and special regulations controlling Authority, and 2. the regulation implementing EU directives Nos. 95/51, 95/62 and 96/19 adopted by the same Ministry under Law No. 650 of December 23, 1996.
