• In a similar way to how the London art market has lost its international pre-eminence as a result of the government's adverse tax and rules environment imposed on the capital, so the UK financial services industry is also being affective by overregulation. The Financial Services Authority's culture of regulation has created a climate of fear, to a degree where organizations have become overly cautious, leading to an uncompetitive market. There needs to be a lighter touch towards regulation and a moratorium imposed on EU directives. The Conservative Party is dedicated to changing the make-up of the FSA's board of directors to reflect the interests of the industry, stakeholders, and consumers.
