• One of the participants of a design forum titled Typography--USA in 1959 held in New York City was Jan Tschichold, the eminent German type designer. Tschichold is known for his influential 1928 manifesto, Die Neue Typographie, where he advocated that a multitude of traditional roman fonts be replaced with a limited number of sans-serif faces. In the publication of the meeting's papers, Tschichold explains his about-face.
