Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Canadian banking is unique among the world's systems. With over 7,700 branches serving communities across Canada, this system provides a higher ratio of full-banking branches to population than any other major industrialized nation. The banks' network of branches and automated banking machines (ABM) provides customers north of the Arctic Circle with access to most of the products and services available farther south. With a 1992 worldwide payroll of $8.3 billion, Canada's banks are major private-sector employers employing over 1.5% of the labor force. Banks increasingly provide one-stop shopping for their customers. However, bank activities may be divided into 4 broad banking categories: retail, commercial and corporate, investment and international. In 1992, banks had $195 billion in outstanding consumer loans and over $24 billion in outstanding small business loans. Improving technology has allowed banks to offer a variety of new products and services, such as home banking, debit cards, smart cards and electronic data interchange.
