After racking up losses of more than L664 million since 1989, Ford's luxury car subsidiary Jaguar expects to be well into the black in 1995. If the company comes close to its target, it would be a turnaround riding on the back of a cost-cutting program, increased sales, and an optimistic forecast for the newly redesigned Jaguar XJ luxury saloon. As it struggles to justify its huge investment in Jaguar, Ford is looking for ways to ensure an bigger bottom line for the future. That could mean a new entry-level Jaguar that would share much of the same basic pieces as a new generation of Ford luxury cars. The most contentious step might be to move production to the US. Work is progressing on a new Jaguar, which will be based on a modified version of the Ford DEW98 chassis.
