Make Systems Inc's NetMaker XA, which costs $40,000 for a typical configuration, receives the highest score of three network modeling and simulation software packages evaluated. The product's foundation are three modules called Planner, Designer and Visualizer. Each module performs a different function, but all three models must function together to simulate a network. Each module is priced separately, with the three core modules costing a minimum of $37,000. CACI Products' $29,000 COMNET Predictor receives the second highest score, offering everything users need to drag and drop icons from a device library into a network diagram. Drawbacks include difficult installation and confusing reports. Scientific and Engineering Software's $9,995 SES/Strategizer is the most inexpensive product, but does not provide growth-over time simulation capabilities.
