- It is critical for the well-being of the academy and the students they serve that faculty members find common ground and work together. One way to do that is to work together locally; that is, for institutions--public and private, large and small--in a given area to capitalize on their proximity and benefit from one another's strengths. Professors within a given region would swap jobs for a semester or a year with colleagues at institutions with different Carnegie ratings.
