• The International Telecommunications Union's World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC) 1979 held in Geneva, Switzerland, seemed to embody the spirit of compromise. The main battlefronts of the conference were lined up along high frequency (HF) broadcasting and the space services issues. The conference allocated some 60% more spectrum in the 9, 11, 15, 17, and 21 MHz bands which will be auctioned at a HF broadcasting WARC to be held in the mid-1980s. The space services battle mainly concerned geostationary orbit and planning.Eighteen areas covered by the conference were: 1. FFS general, 2. FFS feeder links, 3. FFS and BSS, 4. mobile satellite service (MSS) at 7 to 8 GHz, 5. MSS (UHF), 6. MSS 1533 to 1600 MHz, 7. solar powered satellite, 8. radio location, 9. multifrequency broadcasting, 10. land mobile communications, 11. amateurs, 12. radio-navigation satellite service, 13. aeronautical service, 14. maritime mobile service, 15. radio astronomy, 16. meteorological service, 17. remote sensing, and 18. space research. Three world and 6 regional conferences were also approved during the conferences.
