• Televisions (TVs) of the future will provide higher quality in home reception. Component TV, which is already on the market, will be widely available in 3 years. It may consist of a color monitor, stereo amplifier, source selector, speakers, and peripheral components, such as videocassette recorders. Future TVs probably will be computerized or digital. Digital signal processing is more efficient and results in a sharper, clearer picture. Other advantages of digital TV include large-scale integration, more precise image processing, and fewer parts. Digital TV can provide compatibility between different transmission systems, which is why RCA, Zenith, and Sharp Electronics Corp. are working on its development. Digital TV may cause the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) to revise its standards for US TV. The Japanese Broadcasting Corp. has developed a high definition video picture that greatly improves the clarity and realism of current US standard pictures.
