• The appearance of masters in transnational history enrolled almost simultaneously in the courses offered at the University of Geneva as well as at the École Normale Supérieure in rue d'Ulm and at the École des Chartes in Paris could lead to believe, to an early reader, that it constitutes an advanced development of the history of international relations, on the way to a "supreme stage" of history research. However, after others, it should be repeated that the transnational is a category under an approach based on the examination of cross-border interactions that can be applied to an infinity of objects of study - including international relations - while international relations are an object of research in themselves, to which a transnational grid of reading can be applied.
