"Step one" of the development scheme started with the company's existing "Mark 4" gasification technology as employed in the Jindal Steel & Power "Angul" gasification project in India, along with "lessons learned from 30 years of Sasol (Secunda, South Africa) and Dakota Gasification Company (North Dakota, USA)," according to the company. As for capital expense, the new "FBDB Mk Plus" system enables a 50% reduction in "FBDB" modules - with only 20 "Mk Plus" modules required for a notional 4 billion cubic meters/year SNG plant, compared to 40 conventional "Mark4" modules. The scheme also enables savings in downstream units, including carbon monoxide shift and "Rectisol" syngas cleanup, according to the company. This is because of "reduced capex due to higher operating pressure and process effects" as well as "reduced capex due togas composition improvement" and "reduced refrigeration requirement - more efficient high pressure absorption" as well as "reduced methane loss."
