Jebb presents an obituary for art historian Arnout Balis who died in Spetember 6 at the age of 69. A leading scholar of Flemish art, Balis was born in Brussels and studied art history at the University of Ghent before starting his lifetime's work at the National Centre for the Visual Arts of the 16th and 17th Centuries in Antwerp. In 2010, the center was renamed the Centrum Rubenianum, with Balis as chairman, in charge of work on the Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard, a catalogue raisonee of Peter Paul Rubens, building on the materials left by the art historian Ludwig Burchard (1886-1960).
