Twenty years ago, in her seminal piece titled "Throwing Like A Girl," Iris Young reflected on the ways in which girls tended to engage in active movement. Using throwing as an example she described how studies found girls could not seem to run up to a throw, used their arm instead of their entire body when pitching, and took great care with physical activity, protecting the body as if it were a fragile object. Here, Jutel analyzes this movement matter, specifically highlighting women's running books and the paradox of this tradition.
