• To the Editor: The most important finding of the Stenting and Aggressive Medical Management for Preventing Recurrent Stroke in Intracranial Stenosis trial (SAMMPRIS; ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00576693) reported on by Chimowitz et al. (Sept. 15 issue) 1 was the impressive reduction of the rate of stroke with the use of an aggressive medical therapy. The relative reduction in the risk of stroke approached 50% as compared with the cohort in the Warfarin−Aspirin Symptomatic Intracranial Disease trial (WASID, NCT00004728). 2 This finding will have an immediate impact on current medical practice.
