  • Zhang Cong and Yang Yiqing were two senior officials in the early stage of Jiajing. In the period of the Great Ritual Controversy, Zhang Cong made every effort to support the great ritual stand of the Emperor Shizong. In this regard, Yang Yiqing agreed with Zhang Cong's viewpoint. Later, Yang Yiqing acted as mediator actively to conciliate the conflicts between Zhang Cong and others of conservational group in dealing with problems arising from the case of Li Fuda. On the issues of whether carry out the policy of "Ke Dao Hu Jiu" (mutual supervision between officials of Ke and Dao whose responsibility is to supervise other officials in the Ming Dynasty) and get rid of maladis of the Imperial Academy, there were some obvious contradictions and conflicts between Zhang Cong and Yang Yiqing. When Yang Yiqing was involved in corruption scandal, Zhang Cong made his efforts to protect Yang Yiqing.
