Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile testing, we investigated the morphology and the micro-deformation processes in a new kind of highly asymmetric polystyrene/polybutadiene based triblock copolymer and its blends with general purpose polystyrene (GPPS). The emphasis has been put on the analysis of blends morphology evolved under extrusion conditions and the impact of the later on the micromechanical behaviour of the blends. It was found that the phase separated structures were strongly oriented along the extrusion direction leading to the anisotropic mechanical behaviour. The blends showed more ductile performance and lesser strength on loading the sample perpendicular to the extrusion direction. The ductile to brittle transition was observed when the morphology of the blends was dominated by the glassy phase for 60 wt.-% GPPS.
