• The focus of this article is the lexicographical treatment of the secondary interjection ojo! (roughly, "watch out!"). Generally speaking, information provided by Spanish dictionaries about interjections is quite limited & confusing. The semantic-pragmatic process that has resulted in the interjection ojo! & the semantic links that ojo! maintains with the original noun (ojo) help explain the confusion surrounding its definition in dictionaries. Along these lines, criteria that might help to give a correct lexical formulation are presented. Moreover, explanations are provided about all of the lexicographical entries that correspond to each sense of ojo! as listed in a prototype of Spanish markers dictionary (DIME), which follows Mel'cuk's (1988) Sense-Text theoretical framework, as well as the notions & principles of the Dictionnaire explicatif et combinatoire du francais contemporaine (Mel'cuk et al 1984-1999). 36 References.
