Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • The alignment of fundamental frequency (f0) contours in speech with the segmental string is examined in the context of relevant research. Factors known to affect the timing of tonal peaks are listed; these include tonal composition, prosodic context, segmental context, & speaking rate. Issues in the collection & measurement of experimental data are considered. Studies that examine tones in segmental & prosodic contexts are reviewed. Results of a text analysis are presented that provide evidence for segmental & prosodic effects on f0 peak timing. It is suggested that the f0 topic structure of a text also influences f0 peak timing. Implications for the categorizing of tonal contours are discussed. 2 Tables, 30 References.
