Beschreibungen/Notizen
The purpose of this study was to see whether the amount of keratinization of edentulous ridges has something to do with certain biomechanical qualities of dentures (such as occlusion, stability, retention, and vertical dimension of occlusion). Sixty patients served as subjects for this project and were classified according to the presence or absence of some of these characteristics in their dentures.
Smears were made from tissue scrapings collected from the mucosa of four areas of the patients' mouths, and these were stained by the Papanicolaou technique. Each smear was microscopically examined to determine the ratio of enucleated squamae to other cells. The results were tabulated and statistically interpreted.
