Beschreibungen/Notizen
The level of a carboxypeptidase which hydrolyzes basic C-terminal amino acids has been measured in the blood serum of 422 individuals. Normal values have been established in 50 healthy persons of both sexes. Pregnant women showed higher and newborn lower than normal enzymatic activity. Among clinical subjects, neoplastic patients had high carboxypeptidase levels, cirrhotics significantly lower than normal. Cardiac conditions, diabetes, various allergic conditions and certain other diseases offered no clear correlation with the enzyme activity. The involvement of the enzyme in the metabolism of active peptides, such as bradykinin, was discussed.
