• English Examines the anomalous aspects of the 1807 city plan ("Piano Napoleonico") of Milan, focusing on the inclusion of Antolini's 1800 project for the Foro Bonaparte (a monumental neo-classical square) in proximity to the Castello Sforzesco. In the plan, Antolini's grandiose square, conceived on a strongly ideological basis as the political center for the new government protected by the French, appears imposed on rather than assimilated to its urban context. Observes that though Antolini's project was approved (in 1807) by the commission in charge of the plan, in reality it had already been replaced by another urban scale project (i.e., avenues and public gardens designed by Luigi Canonica) carried out 1802-1806 at the site.
