- Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the nose is a necessary prerequisite for understanding the pathophysiologic characteristics of rhinitis and occupational allergy. The nose and paranasal sinuses have a unique anatomical location, shape, and function in modifying and transforming inhaled air. The anatomy of the nose and paranasal sinuses and their basic physiologic functions are reviewed.
