  • Digital technologies paved the path to some new possibilities in generating & exchanging information in various forms & through various media. This development has gone so far that the more traditional questions of media freedom & its economical & socio-political determinism does not suffice any longer. In exploring the social role of the news it is necessary to investigate the ways the technological innovations in question are utilized, such as the media companies' thrive in producing more content for less money & in less time. Multimedial availability & exchange of video, in particular, once reserved exclusively for television, destabilizes the traditional divide between the press, radio & television media, & opens a debate about the new forms of journalistic expression. "Digital news" which has grown out of the maximized exchange of information through multiplicated channels & converged media, has set up some new rules on its own. To mention but a few, what was the most important news item is now the latest one, the institutionalized sources are accompanied by the users, while television delivers information with the help of the press, & vice versa. In order to cut through the technological-institutional foundations of the so-called "new trends," we foreground the issues around the media contents, the increased fluctuation of which is fostered by the development of media, which disperses the contents into an array of directions & through various media technologies.
