The study deals with the concepts of memory (memoria), reminiscence, remembrance & self-reflection as a set of mental operations today referred to as the concept of identity. An individual memory, the content of the capacity of memory, is perceived & recalled in the subject's mind. Does that mean that a memory in fact belongs to the subject? The determining relation to individually subjective memories is the cynicism of a macrological collective or even national memory. Since no scientific discipline has gained a monopoly over remembrance & memory, no special scientific qualification is needed to create the content of collective or national memory. Due to external forces (political, religious, scientific, etc.), memory becomes a storage space for episodic memories, which go through the process of generalization & become semantic models for the exposition & justification of what is usually taken as necessary in the present due to the influence of power. The conceptualization of a memory as a social mediation of history is not necessary for the past, but is indispensable for the present. A memory is that which falls under a conception. If memory is a social concept which gains purposeful acceptance, a memory is also then an easily analyzable discursive operation. If a memory is provided within a current framework into which it fits -- which maintains a certain interpretation of the past as a condition of justification of the present -- and does not disturb the overall anamnetic model of reality, it works analogically to other narrative figures. A memory construct maintains harmony among the elementary aspects of reality. It has the ability to do that, since as an operation of the creators of the memory, it rationalizes the remembering of the past, condenses it into an idea with inter-subjective validity & gives it a coherent shape. If memory is treated in this manner, the result is unity -- variety, diversity, plurality & difference of memories disappear & are replaced by the One. Each unification, cohesion & unity of opinion also means that its emergence was preceded by the destruction of culturally specific memory selected by its own traditions. As soon as the One takes over in philosophy, one needs memory & memories as categories of rescue from the repression of plurality & variety corresponding to the plurality of identities & subjectivities in historical, social & cultural frameworks. That is also the reason why we always encounter the problem of inner philosophical politics with the problem of memory. Memoria is an eminently political problem exceeding the framework of purely philosophical solutions. Adapted from the source document.
