A thermodynamic optimization of the Ge–Ni system was carried out and a set of thermodynamic parameters were obtained. The substitutional solution model was used to describe the liquid and FCC (Ni) terminal solid solution phases. The two-sublattice model was used to describe the non-stoichiometric compounds βNi

3 and NiGe phases were modeled as stoichiometric compounds. The calculated phase diagram and thermodynamic properties agree well with most of the experimental data.
