Research into what occurs in the brain shortly following a seizure caused by a wide range of conditions, offers hope that the time will come when there will be drugs that can stop the development of the full-blown epilepsy that results from the causative conditions. Considerable focus on epileptogenesis tends to be devoted to the temporal lobe epilepsy and the role played by the neurones located in the hippocampus, termed the dentate gyrus.
