DeMaria The study evaluated whether tissue Doppler-derived right ventricular (RV) myocardial performance index (Tei index) might be a useful parameter in the noninvasive assessment of patients with chronic thromoboemboliic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE). In 93 consecutive patients undergoing PTE, RV Tei index decreased significantly after surgery and correlated well with pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR). In addition, the change in RV Tei index after PTE was predictive of the concomitant change in PVR (r = 0.78).
